Wednesday, December 18

8-9 PM A Choral Christmas with Stile Antico
Celebrate Christmas with the sound of soaring voices. Stile Antico, the award winning choir from
London, pays a visit to St. Paul’s church on Harvard Square for a concert of radiant sacred music for the
Christmas season by the most acclaimed composers of the renaissance. Hear the group’s luminous blend
of voices sing the intricately woven music of Thomas Tallis and William Byrd.

9-10 PM ¡Vamos a Belén! Christmas with The Rose Ensemble
Colonial Latin America was a melting pot of ethnic diversity, when newcomers wrestled with local
traditions, and cultural conflict was often reconciled through musical collaboration. Dances from the
streets of Mother Spain mingle with African rhythms and indigenous languages, while celebration turns
glorious in the pageantry of the Franciscan missions of California and New Mexico. The acclaimed Rose
Ensemble performs festive and evocative music from early Peru, Bolivia, Mexico, and beyond.

Thursday, December 19

8-9 PM Christmas with The Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square
The world-renowned Tabernacle Choir continues its tradition of great artistry this holiday season, with
touching arrangements of familiar carols, and lesser-known melodies that are fast becoming the new
classics. Hear a choir of 360 voices, a 150-piece orchestra at Temple Square, the 32-member Bells on
Temple Square, along with other artists and special guests. A 600-person cast will share a stunningly
beautiful mix of carols in various unique arrangements.

9-10 PM Christmas With Morehouse And Spelman Glee Clubs (NPR)
One of the great holiday traditions in America, the choirs of Morehouse and Spelman Colleges — two of
the most prestigious historically black institutions in the nation — get together to present a spine-tingling
concert program. This encore presentation features the best works of the last several years. It’s a joyous
celebration of the schools’ tradition of singing excellence, with their trademark mixture of spirituals and
carols. 


Friday, December 20


8-9 PM A Chanticleer Christmas
Celebrate the season with a cappella holiday favorites, new and old, presented live in concert by
Chanticleer, the superb 12-man choral ensemble known as “an orchestra of voices.”
9-10 PM Christmastime In New York: The Cathedral Choir Of St. John The Divine
The Choir of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine performs at the Medieval Sculpture Hall at the
Metropolitan Museum of Art with a program that spans hundreds of years and describes the story of the
nativity. The program includes settings of the “O Magnum Mysterium” text by T. L. da Victoria, Morton
Lauridsen, and Francis Poulenc; works by Byrd, Biebl, and Hassler; as well as music by Eric Whitacre,
Francis Poulenc, William Byrd and Morten Lauridsen. Kent Tritle, conductor; Nimet Habachy, host.

The internationally acclaimed “little orchestra” Pink Martini bedecks the airwaves with festive holiday
songs from across the globe. From timeless classics to rarely heard gems, hear a multi-denominational,
multi-cultural jubilee, overflowing with enough holiday spirit to warm your entire family.


2-4 PM The Christmas Revels: In Celebration Of The Winter Solstice 2019
An all-new musical celebration of the Winter holidays — Christmas, the Solstice, St. Lucia’s Day, The
Feast of St. Stephen, New Year’s and Twelfth Night/Epiphany — featuring traditional carols, wassails,
hymns, villancicos, children’s game-songs, and folk dance-tunes excerpted from live Christmas Revels
stage productions presented around the country.


8-9 PM Hollywood Holiday
A festive musical retrospective of some of Hollywood’s most cherished films inspired by Dickens’ classic
character, Ebenezer Scrooge.


9-10 PM Welcome Christmas!
A perennial Christmas favorite from VocalEssence, one of the world’s premiere choral groups. Hear
traditional carols and new discoveries. For 2019, hear the world premiere of Nico Muhly’s The Faire
Starre, a nativity cantata that draws on 17th century metaphysical poets and is set in the unique,
eclectic style that has earned Nico Muhly raves from the Metropolitan Opera.

3-4 PM A Mexican Baroque Christmas With The Rose Ensemble
Mexico in the 17th century was a time of great cultural and musical diversity. Those cross-currents
produced church music that was infused with indigenous rhythms and dances. That colorful music is the
centerpiece of this gorgeous and engaging retelling of the Christmas story featuring more than two
centuries of festive Christmas dances and songs from the great cathedrals of Puebla and Mexico City.


7-8 PM *NPR NEWS SERVICE* Tinsel Tales: NPR Christmas Favorites
Stories from the NPR archives that touch on the meaning of Christmas. David Sedaris, Bailey White, John
Henry Faulk – these and other NPR voices, past and present, tell stories of the season.

7-8 PM *NPR NEWS SERVICE* Hanukkah Lights 2019
The NPR favorite returns with all new Hanukkah stories. Authors TBA. Hosted by Susan Stamberg and
Murray Horwitz.


8-9 PM Christmas with the King’s Singers
An a cappella Christmas with the King’s Singers, one of the world’s most celebrated vocal ensembles.
This male sextet — consummate entertainers with a delightfully British wit — perform timeless carols,
Christmas classics and new arrangements in their impeccable vocal blend.


9-10 PM The Christmas Connection
December is filled to bursting with carols and other vocal works—and as a result a great deal of
instrumental and orchestral music is often overlooked. This hour remedies that with holiday pieces by
Bach, Telemann, Beethoven, Berlioz, Rimsky-Korsakov, Hovhaness, and more.

An annual and beloved Christmas tradition, A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols is an extraordinary and
memorable live service of word and music from the Chapel of King’s College, Cambridge, England.
Share in a live, world-wide Christmas Eve broadcast of a service of Biblical readings, carols, and related
seasonal music, presented by one of the world’s foremost choirs of men and boys and performed in an
acoustically and architecturally renowned venue.


7-8 PM *NPR NEWS SERVICE* Jonathan Winters’ “A Christmas Carol”
An updated version of a public radio tradition, master comedian Jonathan Winters presents a distinctive
reading of Dickens’ holiday classic, with a special performing edition prepared by Dickens for his own
presentations.


8-10 PM St. Olaf Christmas Festival
This service in song and word has become one of the nation’s most cherished holiday celebrations. The
festival includes hymns, carols, choral works, as well as orchestral selections celebrating the Nativity and
featuring more than 500 student musicians in five choirs, and the St. Olaf Orchestra.

9-10 AM A Handel & Haydn Society Christmas
Christmas choral music from America’s oldest continuously performing ensemble, Boston’s Handel &
Haydn Society.

10-11 AM 365 Holidays With The Canadian Brass
The Canadian Brass play holiday favorites in new and classic arrangements. “365 Holidays” includes their
exhilarating “Hanukah Medley”, as well as “Joy to the World”, “The First Noel”, “Silent Night”, a new
arrangement of “Jingle Bells” in the style of Handel — and many other tunes for the season.


11 AM–1 PM St. Olaf Christmas Festival (REPEAT)

the dark and light of tender carols, and soaring anthems. A fresh holiday program that captures the
essence of the reign Elizabeth I.


3-4 PM Hollywood Holiday (Repeat)
A musical retrospective of some of Hollywood’s most cherished films inspired by Dickens’ classic
character, Ebenezer Scrooge.


8-9 PM The Christmas Story Through Carols Old And New
The Christmas story through familiar and lesser known carols.


9-10 PM The Vaughan Williams Christmas Connection
The son of a clergyman, he became an atheist in college, then settled for a life as a “cheerful agnostic.”
And yet, he probably wrote more Christmas music than any other modern composer, with a deep love
for both the pageantry and the simple joys of the season.


10-11 PM All Is Bright: Contemplative Music For Christmas
Gorgeous, contemplative choral music that tells the traditional Christmas story with songs about angels,
the star and the manger scene. Featured artists include Cantus, Chanticleer, Cambridge Singers, Bryn
Terfel, Emma Kirkby, Jessye Norman, and a variety of choirs.

8-9 PM Itzhak Perlman’s Chanukah Radio Party
The superstar violinist tells the story of the Jewish festival of lights, and shares his favorite recordings for
the holiday – some serious, some silly. This engaging hour includes numbers from Itzhak Perlman’s
radio-addicted childhood in Israel; evocative songs in Yiddish and Ladino; classical music that revolves
around the Maccabee heroes of the story; and Chanukah gems by American folk singers. The master
storyteller also regales you with jokes and memories, plus tales of three classic Chanukah symbols: the
menorah, the latke, and, of course, the dreidel.
