U.S. Reps. Dan Newhouse and Kim Schrier and other members of the Washington Congressional Delegation held a moment of silence this week on the House floor for the deaths of the three Decker sisters.
“ We all hoped and prayed for the best that they would be found safe and well and returned to their mother. But then we all learned the horrific news that they had been murdered and like so many, and I just heard it out there. I was heartbroken. These girls had their whole lives ahead of them with so many possibilities and we’ve all lived full lives, and, um, those futures were taken from them,” said Schrier.
The congresswoman representing District 8 said the girls brought so much joy to the community and their deaths are an unspeakable tragedy.
“All of our hearts are with their mother and the community and their family and loved ones and so my sincere thoughts and prayers, all of ours, are with them,” said Schrier.
Newhouse, who represents District 4, also addressed the floor, paying his respects to the family of the three girls.
“Tragedy and sorrow fell on Wenatchee, Washington this week with the loss of three beautiful young girls, Evelyn, Paityn and Olivia Decker. I can’t believe that many of us here can truly understand the pain that comes to loved ones living through something like this. My colleagues, thank you, because we are here to send our most sincere condolences to their family, to the community, the people of Wenatchee, Washington, as they all mourn this tremendous loss,” said Newhouse.
He said it is amazing to see people paying their respects to the three girls and took time to thank authorities.
“We support law enforcement who have committed to employing any resource necessary to bring those responsible to justice,” Newhouse added.
After the two addressed the floor, the House held a moment of silence for the three girls.
