Independent Living Conference
September 19 @ 9:00 am - September 20 @ 4:30 pmFree
The MAKING A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE: Starting at Home Conference is scheduled for September 19 & 20 at the Coeur d’Alene Casino in Worley, Idaho. This free two-day conference covers the Independent Living philosophy and introduces vocational rehabilitation and other services for people with disabilities and their families. This conference provides leadership and advocacy training as well as a Youth Transition track and Basic Training for understanding the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The conference plays on a global theme of how making change in the world starts at home. Keynote Speaker Daniella Clark, a head injury survivor, will speak on the success she has had advocating for changing funding and resources for people with traumatic brain injuries in Washington State.
“We are pleased to partner with the Tribal Career Renewal Program and champion the connections among those with different cultural perspectives.” said Mark Leeper, Executive Director of Disability Action Center. “We all have the common experience of disability.” Disability Action Center NW is also partnering with LINC Idaho and LIFE, Inc to put on the conference as part of the Idaho State Plan for Independent Living.
People with disabilities, their parents and family and the general public from around the region in Washington and Idaho are invited. The free conference includes complimentary continental breakfast and buffet lunch both days. Scholarships are available to cover transportation and lodging for those outside a 50-mile radius. Space is limited. Registration forms are available on line at http://dacnw.org/event/making-a-world-of-difference-starting-at-home/
