Heathen: Religion & Race in American History

Heathen: Religion & Race in American History

Join the Religion Department in welcoming Prof. Kathryn Gin Lum for the annual Perry lecture!
Americans used to believe that much of the world was populated by “heathens.” This talk asks what that view of the world entailed and shows its continuing repercussions on American ideas about race as a “heathen inheritance.”
About the speaker: Kathryn Gin Lum is Professor and Chair of Religious Studies in collaboration with the Center for Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity and History (by courtesy) at Stanford University, where she also directs the American Religions in a Global Context Initiative.
