Volunteers avail themselves monthly to help Kittitas County community members repair broken household items. Every second Saturday we meet at the IOOF Cemetery shop to repair lamps, toasters, mowers, blowers, grinders, binders, electronics, water fountains, chairs, tables, shirts, skirts, you name it! If you can bring it to us we'll try to repair it! We'll even help you sharpen your knives and tools! It may be the most fun you've ever had in a shop!

Join SLC’s executive director, Erendira Cruz, for a resource tour across Walla Walla! Participants will first attend a presentation on the methods and benefits of personal waste reduction. They will then explore local efforts to reduce waste with visits to the Builders ReSupply, the Walla Walla landfill, and BIG Recyclers.

The Builders ReSupply keeps usable materials out of the landfill and money in the community members' pockets.

The Walla Walla landfill is determined to provide information to residents and businesses on the services and facilities for solid waste management. It is key to making better decisions about how to manage the wastes we produce on a daily basis. The city coordinates waste reduction, recycling, household hazardous waste, pollution prevention, and composting outreach activities throughout the year.

BIG Recyclers aims to create a sustainable future by diverting recyclable glass from landfills. They hope to build a community that conserves natural resources and reduces waste by turning discarded glass into valuable resources.

This course will cover how to scan photos, negatives, & slides. Handouts will be provided on various film types to help you date your family photos. We will discuss options for naming image files & how to add metadata, making it easier to find images. We will also talk about options for having old home movies digitized. Each student will have a chance to digitize 3 or 4 of their own photos on Epson scanners.

Instructor Julianne Hoppen began digitizing her mom’s photos in the late 1990s, and since then, she has digitized photos, negatives, slides, Hi-8 tapes, and older home movies here at Fort Walla Walla Museum.

Introduction to ELA and Math Performance Tasks is an asynchronous course designed for K–12 educators who want to deepen student learning through authentic, real-world assessment. Participants will explore how high-quality performance tasks can elevate ELA and mathematics instruction by engaging students in meaningful problem-solving, critical thinking, analysis, and communication.

Through guided tasks and structured reflection, educators will examine the key components of effective performance tasks and learn how to align them with grade-level standards and local contexts. Participants will analyze exemplar tasks, unpack scoring criteria, complete one outdoor experiential activity, reflect, and consider how performance tasks can support equity, student voice, and deeper learning.

The course is asynchronous, and access is through 12/22/2026.

Participants can ask questions, gain practical insights into the impact of buying local, and learn ways to make local purchasing part of their lives.

How can we make more sustainable and ethical choices when it comes to our clothes?

This interactive workshop will explore how our clothing choices affect people and the planet and offer practical tools for more environmentally friendly and ethical clothing consumption. The session will include a presentation on how to shop more sustainably—from choosing quality and durable garments to considering materials, production practices, and ethical working conditions.

We’ll then put these ideas into practice with a hands-on clothes mending workshop led by Whitman College Student Sofia Maldonado. Learn simple techniques to repair and extend the life of your favorite garments, helping reduce waste and get more wear out of the clothes you already own.
