What is a Qualified Charitable Distribution?
A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD), previously known as a “Charitable IRA Rollover,” is a tax-wise way to donate directly from your IRA to your favorite nonprofit organizations, including NWPB.
How Does a QCD Work?
If you are 70½ years or older and subject to a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) from your IRA, you can instruct your IRA custodian to transfer up to $100,000 directly to a nonprofit. The key benefits:
- The distribution counts toward your RMD.
- The amount donated is not included as taxable income on your tax return.
This can reduce your taxable income while supporting Northwest Public Broadcasting.
