What spill advocates want you to believe.

What spill advocates want you to believe.

Jerry McGehee is a retiree from Idaho Department of Fish and Game
after 36 years service in the Fish Hatcheries Division. During his
career he was stationed at four salmon hatcheries. Over the past 3
years he has volunteered as an educator with Citizens for the
Preservation of Fish and Dams to teach people about fish, their life
cycle and elements of their environment that will adversely affect
their health. He is ever increasingly convinced that the only thing
most people know about fish is that they live in the water. During
today’s presentation he will describe several vital health concerns
for Idaho juvenile salmon and steelhead on their way to the ocean.

Fred Mensik graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Steven Point,
with degrees in Forestry and Biology and did post-graduate credits in
Fisheries at WSU. He spent 19 years at Lower Granite Dam, and did 2
years of gas bubble trauma exams. He has served as a fish biologist
for 15 years running the Smolt Monitoring Program at Lower Granite
Dam. He wrote the book, Whistling Past the Tombstones, a history of
fish declines in the State of Idaho. He is currently the president of
the organization, Citizens for the Preservation of Fish and Dams. He
will be explaining the cause of the decline in fish numbers. He
believes that fish and dams can coexist if the dams are managed
properly.
