Perched high above the city streets, High Rise Hijinks is an afternoon of thrills, laughter, and breathtaking physical comedy.

The program opens with Liberty (1929), in which Laurel & Hardy find themselves stranded on a towering steel framework, where a simple wardrobe mix-up spirals into a dizzying series of near misses and perfectly timed chaos.

The feature, Safety Last! (1923), follows Harold Lloyd’s unforgettable climb up a downtown skyscraper — culminating in one of the most iconic moments in film history.

Nationally renowned organist Dennis James accompanies both films live on the Washington Center’s cherished 1924 Andy Crow Wurlitzer, connecting modern audiences to the irreplaceable magic of silent cinema.

KPAC presents A NIGHT AT THE OPERA as part of our Cinema Classics series, featuring films chosen by our Classic Films Committee. A sly business manager and the wacky friends of two opera singers in Italy help them achieve success in America while humiliating their stuffy and snobbish enemies. KPAC and BookPeople of Moscow present JULIE & JULIA as part of our Page to Screen series featuring book-to-film adaptations handpicked by the experts at BookPeople. Julie Powell, a young blogger, is determined to emulate Julia Child's cooking techniques. Though separated by time, the two women share a common passion for food that intertwines their lives. Julie and Julia is a charming and entertaining culinary comedy, elevated by Meryl Streep's charismatic and delightful performance as Julia Child. Sponsored by BookPeople.

Every Monday in January, we will be screening two episodes of the surreal crime drama created by David Lynch and Mark Frost. FBI Agent Dale Cooper travels to the small logging town of Twin Peaks to solve the murder of the seemingly innocent high schooler Laura Palmer. Almost nothing is as it seems, however, and the show’s sometimes eerie visuals, oddball characters, and wild dream sequences drive the point home. Sponsored by Orchard Farm Soap.

Honor Black History Month with an afternoon of film and music that lifts up the artistry, innovation, and enduring legacy of early Black performers. This special program features a rare screening of The Flying Ace (1926), a thrilling aviation drama from the era of “race films” – independent productions created for Black audiences during a time of segregation in the American film industry. Set against the backdrop of a small-town airfield, the story follows a heroic pilot as he navigates mystery, romance, and high-flying adventure, offering a fascinating glimpse into a vital and often overlooked chapter of cinema history.

Complementing the film is a live organ performance celebrating the music of Fats Waller, one of the most influential and joyful voices of early jazz. Known for his stride piano brilliance, infectious rhythms, and larger-than-life personality, Waller helped define the sound of a generation.

Acclaimed silent film organist Dennis James brings the evening to life with a dynamic live score on our 1924 Andy Crow Wurlitzer Organ. Together, film and music create an entertaining and educational tribute to Black creativity and resilience, where history, culture, and artistry take flight.
