Fusing Bruno Mars-caliber stage presence with top-tier vocals and wall-to-wall choreography, the men of UPTOWN combine the smooth stylings of R&B with the fresh hits of today in a unique and modern show that gets every crowd on their feet!
Born in New York City (the epicenter of contemporary pop and soul music), the group exudes unparalleled energy with their blend of contemporary radio hits and classic Motown music. Every single member of UPTOWN is a world-class soloist, with frequent comparisons to the artistry of icons like Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye; when they come together as one collective, the resulting remix creates “the most electrifying show you’ll see this decade!” (Agua Caliente, Palm Springs CA).

Speaker: Neil Levy
Description: According to polling data, lots of people – many millions – accept outrageous conspiracy theories. Pizzagate was accepted by nearly half of all Republicans. QAnon was supported by similar numbers, and 25% said that Obama may be the literal antichrist. In the light of this data, it’s tempting to conclude our fellow citizens have gone bonkers (as one pollster putit).
In this talk, I will give reasons to think that Republicans have not gone crazy. First, while conspiracy theories seem more common on the right now, that’s not because the left is immune.
Accepting conspiracy theories is really common, and in a different time the left might have been more prone to them than the right.
Second, though, there is good evidence that far fewer people really believe the conspiracy theories than reporting believing. I will present some of this evidence, including my own philosophical and psychological research.
Bio: Neil Levy is a professor of philosophy at Macquarie University (Sydney, Australia) and a Senior Research Fellow at the Uehiro Oxford Institute, University of Oxford.

The Central Washington University community and the greater Ellensburg area are invited to a concert featuring the CWU Symphonic Band and Concert Band on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. in Hertz Concert Hall of the McIntyre Music Building. Admission is free and open to the public.
The CWU Concert Band, under the direction of Kyle Edwards, lecturer of band, will open the evening with a program that bridges traditional and contemporary wind band repertoire, including works by John Philip Sousa, Nicole Piunno, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Brian Balmages, and David Biedenbender.
The second half of the program will feature the CWU Symphonic Band, conducted by Dr. T. André Feagin, Director of Bands and Associate Professor of Music. Their performance includes works by Dana Wilson, Frank Erickson, Paul Creston, and Ralph Vaughan Williams, concluding with Alfred Reed’s masterwork Praise Jerusalem!
Composed in 1986, Reed’s Praise Jerusalem! (Kovia Yeroosaghem) is based on a seventh-century Armenian hymn melody notated by the renowned musicologist Gomidas Vartabed and included in his Chants of the Divine Liturgy of the Armenian Apostolic Church. The piece takes the form of an introduction, theme with five variations, and a finale, all derived from the original hymn. Though not programmatic, the variations explore the musical richness of this 1,300-year-old melody, fully employing the color and power of the modern wind orchestra. The work culminates in a radiant finale featuring antiphonal brass. The concert will also mark the debut of Tyler White, first-year graduate conducting student in CWU’s Master of Music program in Wind Band Conducting.

Scott Henderson’s arrangements of carols by Japanese children and Sondheim’s “No One Is Alone” complete the program. This concert features Metropolitan Opera mezzo-soprano Kimberly Sogioka. There will be two performances: Saturday, November 22 at 5:00 pm and Sunday, November 23 at 3:00 pm. Tickets available at Village Books (Fairhaven) and on our website.
