Rebecca Lewis is a local artist with over 25 years of creative exploration, Rebecca Lewis is a lifelong artist whose heart has always belonged to painting. Though she’s worked across many mediums—from ceramics to textiles—it's the brush and canvas that continue to call her home. Rebecca has taught art to students of all ages, from curious kindergartners to adventurous adults, and she firmly believes that anyone can learn to paint with the right guidance and techniques. Her work is deeply inspired by the natural world and the creatures that inhabit it, bringing a sense of wonder and connection to every piece she creates—and every class she leads.
Gesa Power House Theatre is thrilled to welcome back to the stage Latin Grammy-nominated artist Gina Chavez on Friday, September 18 at 7 p.m. This event is sponsored by SKIE Architecture Studio, with support from ArtsWA, Creative West, and the National Endowment for the arts.
Gina Chavez is a wife, philanthropist and an award-winning independent musician. She is a 2020 Latin Grammy nominee for Best Pop/Rock Album, 12-time Austin Music Award winner, including 2019 Best Female Vocals and 2015 Austin Musician of the Year. Her NPR Tiny Desk concert has more than 1.3 million views and her hour-long PBS special is available nationwide.
Gina’s music is deeply personal. Her passionate collection of bilingual songs takes audiences on a journey to discover her Latin roots through music as she shares her story of life in Texas as a married, queer Catholic.
Gina tours internationally as a cultural ambassador with the U.S. State Department and runs Niñas Arriba, a college fund she co-founded with her wife for young women in gang-dominated El Salvador. She is featured alongside Oprah, Beyonce, Mahalia Jackson, Dolly Parton, and many more in Southern Living’s new book celebrating “100 extraordinary women who have left their indelible mark on the South and beyond.”
Formed in Richland, WA in 2025, featuring Zach Hayward on vocals and guitar, Seth Garello and Brady Combs as guitarists, Sid Bennedict playing bass and Zach Craig on drums, this local band blends energetic jammy rock energy with psychedelic tendencies, drawing inspiration from acts such as Queens of the Stone Age and Incubus.

National Featured Quilter: Sew Kind of Wonderful
Jim Hodges’ “Unearthed” exhibition is a monumental bronze cast of an uprooted tree stump. The truncated form resonates with majesty while also serving as a mournful reminder of humankind’s impact upon the natural world. The sculpture is suspended in stillness, suggesting what might have been above, stretching branches that had reached into the air towards the sun that once contained life in green and barky rough wildness. With this implication, and through our interaction with the sculpture, “Unearthed” opens generative thought toward relationships between environments and their communities. The work beckons us to consider fragility, ephemerality, as well as the sacredness of life.
This work-in-becoming had its first residency in San Francisco’s Grace Cathedral in 2019. Imagine that in the confines of that edifice the sculpture absorbed metaphysical power from everyday spiritual practice, from a celebration of life observed in rites of faith, musical performances, readings, by a community’s presence, participation, and social interaction. “Unearthed” has its second residency at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at Washington State University, providing the academic and regional community an occasion to approach the work through intentional participation.
In time, its roots will be reunited with the ground through burial, transferring its accumulated goodwill charged with incorporeal memories and energies into the Earth. Only its severed trunk will remain visible, indicating a new role in nature.

LOCATION | The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art WSU is located in the Crimson Cube (on Wilson Road across from Martin Stadium and the CUB) on the WSU Pullman campus. Museum hours are Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Closed Sundays, Mondays, and during University holidays and breaks.
