Gas prices dropped to under $3 a gallon nationally, which is the lowest since May of 2021. But in the Northwest, those changes are less pronounced.

According to the American Automobile Association, or AAA, Idaho’s gas prices remained at $3.25 as of Dec. 2, with Washington at $4.16 and Oregon at $3.76.

“If you’re looking for the ‘glass-half-full’ side of things: Utah, which supplies most of our gasoline, is already at $3.06 per gallon,” said AAA Oregon/Idaho public affairs director Matthew Conde. “Our hope is to get quite a bit closer to $3 gasoline as winter sets in.”

In the Inland Northwest, Whitman County was at $4.69 per gallon in early December, Asotin $3.71, and Spokane County $3.76. In Idaho, Latah County was $3.23, Nez Perce $3.13, Lewis $3.09, and Clearwater $3.10.

Gas prices averaged $3.12 in Lewiston, and $3.81 in Clarkston, as of Dec. 2.

Crude oil production is expected to remain unchanged through the first three months of 2026, according to OPEC+, which could result in lower gas prices as the winter sets in, according to AAA.
