On Saturday, the Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center will host a Martin Luther King Jr. Multicultural Fest with the nonprofit NCW Equity Alliance. The event is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The celebration falls right before Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Juan David, who is with NCW Equity Alliance, helps other nonprofits understand the definitions of diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility and belonging. He said this event is centered around learning more about Wenatchee’s diverse communities.
“The idea is for the kids to learn more about the diversity we have in our region. We are honoring Martin Luther King, the biggest fighter for the civil rights in this country. It's important for folks to learn why we have this federal holiday,” David said.
People will learn about other cultures and how they connect to Wenatchee. Different tables at the event will represent countries through art, crafts and information on the country’s history.
The celebration is an annual event. David said there will be a variety of different performances, including salsa, mariachi performances from local schools, Irish dance and line dancing.
Around 13 different countries are being represented during Saturday’s event, including a variety of Latin American countries.
