PULLMAN – Last weekend, the City of Pullman and Pullman Disposal Service encouraged Pullman residents to clean up the town as well as their own homes after this year’s long winter.
The clean up started at 8 a.m. on Saturday and ended at noon. Devon Felsted, president of Pullman Disposal Service, said the people of Pullman need this event to get inspired to get rid of the trash they gather over the long winter days.
“Sometimes junk can build up over the winter, well fall or winter, so it can kind of get discouraging to get that stuff out of the house,” Felsted said.
Felsted said the main way people were motivated to get out and take their trash or recyclables to their facility is thanks to their low costs to bring in their unwanted items.
“If you go out to the county, they have a $15 minimum to dump off any kind of trash out there so you definitely save money and also you don’t have to drive the six miles out to the landfill site and back,” Felsted said.
Pullman Disposal Service had a crew out at their facility to help people unload the trash out of their cars or trucks and depending on the size, they charge $7 per car of $10 per truck or trailer loads. Felsted said he estimates 80 to 100 people show up to use the service per year and said he would keep a count to see how many people would show up after running the event for almost 20 years.
“It’s just a fun thing that we can do to help out and everyone in the company participates in it so it’s just a big fun event to help the city out,” Felsted said.
