PULLMAN, WASH - WSU students parking on campus may be paying more for their spots soon.

The WSU Parking and Transportation Task Force want to increase the cost of parking permits and parking meters across campus. All campus parking permits are proposed to increase in price 10% a year starting in july through 2025. Parking meters are also set to increase by 60% to four dollars per hour. For reference, the most expensive annual parking permit for the orange lots would increase from 776 dollars to over a thousand.

Assistant Director of WSU Transportation Cody Wilson said WSU transportation services have about 14 million dollars worth of deferred maintenance. Wilson added that the deferred maintenance costs are backlogged from before 2020.

Wilson said work needs to be done on garages, service lots, and other areas around campus that can not get done without funding. Wilson understands many are frustrated by the increases, but without this funding operations would not be able to keep up with the demand.

Wsu transportation is still taking public comments regarding the permit increase. Wilson said all comments are taken into consideration by him and other staff.
