New music programs join NWPB Classical's Friday and Saturday schedule

NWPB Classical is excited to announce new additions to the weekend music lineup beginning January 9, 2026, bringing even more discovery, creativity, and fresh perspectives to your listening experience. From rising classical talent and cutting-edge contemporary works to genre-spanning conversations and celebrated NPR favorites, there’s something new to tune in for every weekend.

Fridays

1:00 PM – From the Top

From the Top moves to a new primary airtime. The long-running NPR program features exceptional young classical musicians from across the country in performances that are as inspiring as they are accomplished. The familiar Sunday broadcast at 12:00 PM will now serve as an encore presentation, giving listeners two chances each week to hear the next generation of classical talent.

2:00 PM – Now THAT'S What I Call 21st Century

NWPB is committed to bringing you the programs you love, fostering music discovery, and to developing original programming. Now THAT'S What I Call 21st Century showcases beautifully crafted classical music written since 2000 — lyrical, expressive, and firmly rooted in tradition. Thoughtfully curated by NWPB’s own Jedd Greenhalgh, the program offers a welcoming gateway to contemporary composers who are expanding the classical repertoire while preserving the richness, emotional depth, and artistry that longtime classical fans love. Tune in for modern music that feels both fresh and familiar.

Saturdays

2:00 PM – Alt.Latino

Every week, Alt.Latino introduces listeners to new artists shaping the sound of Latin music. From Mexican American R&B darling Omar Apollo to Dominican Dembow game-changer Tokischa and everyone in between, the show's one-on-one interviews with artists use music as a tool for exploring the history and culture of Latin America and what creates a shared Latinx identity.

2:30 PM – All Songs Considered

Since launching in 2000, All Songs Considered has been NPR’s flagship program for music discovery, artist interviews and conversations with friends and fellow music lovers about the really big questions, like what was the best decade for music, are there albums everyone can agree on, and what do you put on when you need a good cry? Weekly, with host Robin Hilton and the NPR Music family.

3:00 PM – Tiny Desk Radio

Picture an office desk in front of some junky, cluttered bookshelves. For the past 16 years, NPR has hosted some of the world’s greatest musicians behind that desk. From discovery acts from every genre under the sun, to the biggest, most legendary names, it’s become a rite of passage for great artists to perform at the Desk with their unique, intimate performances.

Think of Tiny Desk Radio like a music discovery engine and a VIP venue for your ears. It’s where you’ll hear Tiny Desk performances from some of the most iconic artists of our time — from Hozier to Alicia Keys to Billie Eilish. Plus, you’ll hear new-to-you acts like Ca7riel & Paco Amoroso — they might just become your next favorite band. It’s intimate, unexpected, and larger than life — it’s Tiny Desk Radio, only from NPR Music.

We invite you to explore these new programs and make them part of your weekend routine. Tune in Fridays and Saturdays for music that inspires, surprises and connects.
