Another burn ban announced for the Northwest as fire danger increases

The Washington State Department of Natural Resources implemented a burn ban on Friday for lands it manages in Eastern Washington.

Hot, dry weather continues to increase wildfire danger statewide. There are multiple wildfires already burning across the state, including the Hope Fire near Kettle Falls and the Western Pines Fire near Davenport.

The burn ban includes campfires and the use of charcoal briquettes on all forest land within DNR’s fire protection in the Northeast and Southeast Regions. It will remain in place until otherwise posted, and dependent on weather conditions.

“It has already been a hot summer and with more warm, dry conditions still ahead of us, we need to do everything we can to keep our state and firefighters safe,” said Commissioner of Public Lands Dave Upthegrove.

Officials are urging the public to stay alert to rapid environmental changes, check restrictions and weather conditions before outdoor recreation, and to stay on established trails.

Drivers should ensure any tow chains are properly secured and not dragging on the pavement, which  could create sparks.

Anyone who sees smoke should report it to 911. Tips for how to stay safe during fire season and wildfire statistics are available on the DNR website and data dashboard.

Many local ordinances already have restrictions in place. Residents should always check local restrictions prior to burning.
