Northwest Public Broadcasting General Manager Cara Williams Fry leaves the station at the end of the month after more than four years in the role. She has been appointed president and CEO of Kansas City PBS and will begin her new position July 20.
Here, she shares a letter of farewell to NWPB audiences:
"As I prepare to conclude my time as General Manager of Northwest Public Broadcasting, I wanted to thank you personally for the opportunity to serve this remarkable organization and the communities across the Northwest.
Serving NWPB has been a privilege. Over the past several years, I have come to appreciate not only the beauty and diversity of this region, but also the deep commitment our listeners, viewers, readers, members, donors and community partners have to public media. Your support has reaffirmed something I have believed throughout my career - that trusted journalism, educational programming, arts and culture, and meaningful community conversations matter.
Public media exists because communities value knowledge, curiosity and connection. Every day, NWPB strives to inform, educate and inspire, and that work is only possible because of the people who believe in it and support it.
I also want to recognize the talented staff of NWPB. Behind every newscast, story, educational resource, digital feature, event and broadcast is a team of dedicated professionals committed to serving the public. I have been fortunate to work alongside people who care deeply.
One of the greatest lessons I will carry with me is that the strongest organizations are built by people who can truly trust one another, respect confidentiality, and never lose sight of why they are here. The best work happens when people listen first, lean in when challenges arise, and choose solutions over complaints. Success happens when people care more about getting it right than getting the credit. That spirit of collaboration has shaped my career, and it will always remain at the center of how I work.
While I have accepted the opportunity to become President and CEO of Kansas City PBS, my focus in writing today is simply to say thank you. Thank you for welcoming me into your communities, for supporting public media, and for believing in the work we do together.
NWPB's mission is enduring, and I have every confidence that the committed colleagues who serve this organization will continue providing trusted journalism, lifelong learning, engaging storytelling and meaningful connections throughout the Northwest for years to come.
Most of all, thank you. Thank you for allowing me to be part of this work, and for the trust you place in public media every day. Serving the Northwest has been an honor I will never forget.
I leave with gratitude, optimism and confidence in what comes next—for NWPB, for public media, and for the communities we are privileged to serve.
With gratitude,
Cara Williams Fry"
