Foreign Emoluments Clause

A federal three-judge panel is weighing arguments for and against ordering the president's accountants to release information to a Democratic congressional committee.

The Inspector General for the General Services Administration said agency lawyers decided to ignore the constitutional issues when they reviewed the lease after Donald Trump won the 2016 election.

The plaintiffs are expected to ask for documents concerning the finances of the president and his businesses, which are normally closely held.

About 200 Democrats contend Trump's Washington, D.C., hotel is violating the Constitution's Foreign Emoluments Clause. Now a federal judge will let them make the argument in court.
