U.S. Senate and House Democrats from Oregon and Washington moved swiftly to condemn President Donald Trump’s announcement that the United States carried out a military strike in Venezuela and captured President Nicolás Maduro and his wife.

The Biden administration said Monday that it will allow many Venezuelans who are already in the country illegally to remain because of the humanitarian and economic crisis in the socialist South American nation that is an adversary of the U.S.

Venezuelans woke up Thursday morning with two men both claiming to be their nation's rightful leader: sitting President Nicolás Maduro and upstart opposition leader Juan Guaidó, head of Venezuela's National Assembly.
