May 16 Saturday
With Songs of Solace, we give voice to words of comfort set to the sublime music of Bach, Brahms, Boulanger, and Bruckner, featuring the Whatcom Chorale Sinfonia wind ensemble. The motet “O Jesu Christ, mein’s Lebens Licht” and Brahms’s “Begräbnisgesang” (“Song of Interment”) offer solace to those who grieve. Boulanger’s setting of Psaume 24, “The earth is the Lord’s,” is a stirring fanfare. Bruckner’s deeply spiritual Mass in E minor features extensive a cappella passages and eight-part harmonies.
Join us Saturday afternoon, May 16, 5:00 p.m., for our Spring Choral Concert, featuring the choirs of Walla Walla University. This year, the repertoire's theme is about "Time", which will be sung about extensively by ICantori and University Singers, the two choirs performing in this concert.
This concert also features the Misa Criolla by Ariel Ramírez, a celebrated Argentianian take on the classic mass, featuring Spanish litrugical text combined with Andean folk rhythms and instruments. This mass will be performed with Trío Guadalevín, a Latino world music ensemble based in Seattle. All are welcome to attend!

A new opera about queer love and the first American woman in space.
Sally Ride follows the real-life story of the first American woman and the first LGBTQ+ person to go to space. Narrated by her life partner, Tam O'Shaughnessy, who consulted on the creation of this work, the opera illuminates parts of Ride's life that remained hidden until her death while celebrating her immense contributions to the field of physics, to the US space program, and to science education.
This world-premier explores the thrills, disappointments, humor, and secrets of Ride's life, taking the audience on a journey of personal exploration and triumph.
Written by composer Dana Kaufman and librettist Aiden K. Feltkamp. Directed by Eliza K. Woodyard.
