The Rude Mechanicals bring you the 5th annual Free Shakespeare in the Park. A family friendly event open to the public and free for everyone. This year Shakespeare in the Park will be visiting Pasco and Richland and will have one indoor performance for folks that prefer an air conditioned experience!
This year's show is The Taming of the Shrew. This play is well known as a fierce "enemies to lovers" story full of clever wit and snappy comebacks. This modern adaptation keeps these main plot devices and adds an updated flair. Social pressures abound in 2015 Bellingham, where a mother wants to find loving partners for her adult daughters Bianca and Katharina… and get them moved out of her house. Who will change to fit the rules? And who will change the rules to fit themselves?
Shakespeare in the Park is free to attend and has 5 performances and 2 locations to choose from:
Sept. 4th & 5th at 7pm at the Columbia Basin College Amphitheatre
Sept. 5th inside the Columbia Basin College Mainstage Theatre
Sept. 11th & 12th at the historic "Fingernail Stage" in Howard Amon Park
Bring your blankets, lawn chairs, and picnics to any of the outdoor performances and enjoy an outdoor dinner and a show!

Cockaphonix brings their carnival-style circus punk from Yakima to the stage, blending wild-west energy and New Orleans street-parade chaos. Fastener, an Olympia indie rock/emo band, brings ’90s-inspired sounds and dueling vocals rooted in the Pacific Northwest DIY scene. Right Now Right Now rounds out the lineup for a night of live music and local talent.

Morse Clary's Retrospective Exhibition explores one sculptor's observations of life using non-verbal language of found objects embedded in exquisitely crafted wooden books revealing a rich universe of visual poetry.
Jim Hodges’ “Unearthed” exhibition is a monumental bronze cast of an uprooted tree stump. The truncated form resonates with majesty while also serving as a mournful reminder of humankind’s impact upon the natural world. The sculpture is suspended in stillness, suggesting what might have been above, stretching branches that had reached into the air towards the sun that once contained life in green and barky rough wildness. With this implication, and through our interaction with the sculpture, “Unearthed” opens generative thought toward relationships between environments and their communities. The work beckons us to consider fragility, ephemerality, as well as the sacredness of life.
This work-in-becoming had its first residency in San Francisco’s Grace Cathedral in 2019. Imagine that in the confines of that edifice the sculpture absorbed metaphysical power from everyday spiritual practice, from a celebration of life observed in rites of faith, musical performances, readings, by a community’s presence, participation, and social interaction. “Unearthed” has its second residency at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at Washington State University, providing the academic and regional community an occasion to approach the work through intentional participation.
In time, its roots will be reunited with the ground through burial, transferring its accumulated goodwill charged with incorporeal memories and energies into the Earth. Only its severed trunk will remain visible, indicating a new role in nature.

LOCATION | The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art WSU is located in the Crimson Cube (on Wilson Road across from Martin Stadium and the CUB) on the WSU Pullman campus. Museum hours are Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Closed Sundays, Mondays, and during University holidays and breaks.

Finding common ground in bold representation of the natural world, Kathy Anderson, Colleen Cotey, Sara Gettys, and Julia Janeway each bring a practiced sensitivity to their chosen mediums. Through processes that remove material or add it, these four artists present new works rooted in an intimate knowledge of place and material.
