For the director of such classics as Alien, Blade Runner, Black Hawk Down and Gladiator, this picture amounts to a kind of idyll, but with an ominous edge and occasional bursts of violence.

It finds its own poetry in love, bravery, deceit, violence, horror and (occasional) humor. In Tiresias’ words: “It is the journey itself that makes up your life.” The Odyssey is a journey well worth nearly three hours of yours.
