February topic: Tool Sharpening with Truk Tolstad
The February 7th meeting of the Birchwood Garden Club will be held in the Rotunda Room of the Old City Hall Museum, 121 Prospect Street, Bellingham, WA 98225. Doors open at 6:30 P.M. and our meeting will begin at 7:00 P.M.
It’s time to get our gardening tools back into shape! Whatcom Edge has a mobile tool sharpening service where Truk Tolstad, the owner, provides our community with sharpening on demand.
Truk will speak about and demonstrate the following topics:
1. Cleaning: steel wool, wire brush, etc.
2. Picking the correct sharpening tool.
3. Correct clamping/holding, positioning.
4. Marking and making the proper edge.
5. Addressing a burr.
6. Lubricating, tightening and adjusting.
7. Balancing.
He will then take us down to his mobile operation for a fast run using some of our tools.
Whatcom Museum is not going to allow us to practice our tool sharpening in the building due to the metal bits, dirt and risk of cuts. Bring a few of your tools, but leave them in your car. Truk is also going to offer a raffle prize of some sharpening services. Please join us!!!
Birchwood Garden Club membership is open to anyone in Whatcom or Skagit Counties. You are invited to join us at our monthly meetings where we will have membership brochures to join. Applications for small grants from the Birchwood Garden Club must be received by December 31 each year and will be awarded each year in January to organizations that promote education opportunities in the realm of horticultural, agricultural or related fields.
