We are excited to announce that we will be hosting bestselling author, TJ Klune, for his paperback release of In the Lives of Puppets. Join us for a book conversation with TJ to learn more about his book followed by a Q&A and book signing.
Doors will open for the event at 6:30pm at the Wenatchee River Institute’s Red Barn (347 Division St. Leavenworth). Below is a schedule for the evening:
6:30pm: Meet & Greet with TJ
7:00pm: A Book Conversation between TJ and local author, Derek Sheffield with a Q&A to follow
7:45pm: Book Signing
8:00pm: Event closes

About the Book
Inspired by Carlo Collodi’s The Adventures of Pinocchio, and like Swiss Family Robinson meets Wall-E, In the Lives of Puppets is a masterful stand-alone fantasy adventure from the beloved author who brought you The House in the Cerulean Sea and Under the Whispering Door.
In a strange little home built into the branches of a grove of trees, live three robots—fatherly inventor android Giovanni Lawson, a pleasantly sadistic nurse machine, and a small vacuum desperate for love and attention. Victor Lawson, a human, lives there too. They’re a family, hidden and safe.
The day Vic salvages and repairs an unfamiliar android labelled “HAP,” he learns of a shared dark past between Hap and Gio–a past spent hunting humans.
When Hap unwittingly alerts robots from Gio’s former life to their whereabouts, the family is no longer hidden and safe. Gio is captured and taken back to his old laboratory in the City of Electric Dreams. So together, the rest of Vic’s assembled family must journey across an unforgiving and otherworldly country to rescue Gio from decommission, or worse, reprogramming.
Along the way to save Gio, amid conflicted feelings of betrayal and affection for Hap, Vic must decide for himself: Can he accept love with strings attached?

TJ KLUNE is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling, Lambda Literary Award-winning author of The House in the Cerulean Sea, The Extraordinaries, and more. Being queer himself, Klune believes it’s important—now more than ever—to have accurate, positive queer representation in stories.
About the Moderator
Derek Sheffield is a local author, poet, and professor. His books include Cascadia Field Guide: Art, Ecology, Poetry (Mountaineers, 2023), Not for Luck (Michigan State University, 2021), selected by Mark Doty for the Wheelbarrow Books Poetry Prize, and Dear America: Letters of Hope, Habitat, Defiance, and Democracy (Trinity, 2020). He teaches at Wenatchee Valley College and is on the faculty of Western Colorado University’s low-residency MFA program. Poetry editor of Terrain.org, he can often be found in the forests and rivers along the eastern slopes of the Cascade Range near Leavenworth, Washington.
