Press Release:

June 14, 2023

Moscow, Idaho–
Amateur radio operators (hams) often provide the only communication available in emergencies and other less-than-ideal situations. To practice such communication, United States and Canadian hams will gather from 11 a.m. Saturday to 11 a.m. Sunday, June 24–25, to operate in Field Day, a two-day annual informal contest and social event sponsored by the American Radio Relay League (ARRL). ARRL is the national association for amateur radio in the United States and represents more than 171,000 federally licensed amateur radio operators.

The Palouse Hills Amateur Radio Club (PHARC) plans its Field Day event for the Latah County Fairgrounds in Moscow, Idaho and invites members of the public to learn about amateur radio and operate a Get on the Air (GOTA) station, from which they can communicate with other stations in the United States and even other countries. The club will offer amateur radio license testing at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

To become an amateur radio operator, it is generally easiest to seek a local club. Clubs often offer classes, licensing, technical information, and operating help and advice. PHARC (https://www.qsl.net/kd7ph/) holds monthly Zoom meetings beginning at 7 p.m.
