The Watermelon Woman

June 19, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

A young black lesbian filmmaker probes into the life of The Watermelon Woman, a 1930s black actress who played ‘mammy’ archetypes. An auspicious debut for writer-director Cheryl Dunye, THE WATERMELON WOMAN tells a fresh story in wittily irreverent style. Juneteenth events sponsored by UI BAACC, Moscow Human Rights Commission, WSU Office for Social Justice Education and Outreach, UI Certificate in Equity and Justice, UI LGBTQA Office, Palouse Council on Racial Equity, WSU Division of Student Affairs, UI Africana Studies and Moscow Coop.
