28th Annual Grays Harbor Shorebird and Nature Festival

May 3 - May 5

28th Annual Grays Harbor Shorebird and Nature Festival
Each spring, hundreds of thousands of shorebirds stop to rest and feed along the Washington Coast and in the Grays Harbor estuary during their migration northward. Coming from as far south as Argentina, these Arctic-bound shorebirds are among the world’s greatest migrants. Some birds travel over 15,000 miles round trip! The concentration of birds during spring migration offers people an excellent chance to view a number of shorebird species. They include plovers, turnstones, sandpipers, dowitchers, and others. The shorebird spectacle happens every year at Grays Harbor National Wildlife Refuge and in other parts of the county. People from around the world come to view this event of hemispheric importance. The Festival works to bring people together for this incredible natural phenomenon.

This year’s festival runs Friday May 3rd – Sunday May 5th in Hoquiam, WA. The main location at the Hoquiam Middle School is just one stop of the event. There are also field trips to other coastal locations with expert guides. There will be shuttle buses out to the refuge Sandpiper Trail throughout the day and opportunities to attend workshops of interest. In the evenings the festival features accomplished speakers to further your birding day. In addition, it serves as a culmination of the year’s education program where we highlight our contest winners and provide a fun space for kids to explore in our Kids Workshop area. It’s truly a fun filled weekend event for all ages.
