Scarecrow Video Zeitgeist ‘23! – Human-Environmental Interactions in Science Fiction Films
A lecture-discussion hosted by board member Mark Daniels
Have you ever thought about how you interact with the environment? Even just going for a walk in your local park or driving your car to work is an example of human-environmental interaction. In this session of Scarecrow Video Zeitgeist ‘23, we will talk about the human-environmental interactions in science fiction cinema. We will look at movies from the golden age of science fiction to movies of the twenty-first century. From the awakening of prehistoric monsters due to atomic testing in The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms and Godzilla to the apocalyptic thriller The Day the Earth Caught Fire to the dystopic future of Silent Running and Soylent Green and the second ice age of The Day After Tomorrow and The Colony.
